How to watch the Realme 8 5G Launch live

It’s hard to believe that Realme was first established as recently as 2018. The company has quickly made a name for itself in the ultra-competitive smartphone market, especially following its expansion into Western markets a year later.

Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised. Realme’s founder, Sky Li, previously worked at Oppo, with both operating under Chinese corporation BBK. That’s the same company that owns fellow smartphone manufacturers OnePlus, Vivo and iQOO.

Realme has released an incredible number of phones during the last three years, the most recent being the Realme 8 and Realme 8 Pro, after a slight delay, now it’s the turn of the Realme 8 5G. Here’s all you need to know about the launch event.

When is the Realme 8 5G launch?

The Realme 8 5G will officially launch on 22 April 2021. More specifically, 9:30am BST in the UK.

The standard Realme 8 – which is already on sale in various markets, including India – is slated to touch down in new markets, including the UK, at the same time.

Realme will be live streaming the launch event on its official YouTube channel. We’ve embedded the stream at the top of this page.

If you’d prefer, the event will also be broadcast on Facebook and Twitter.

What to expect from the Realme 8 5G

Comparatively speaking, Realme has teased very little about its next 5G-capable entry, versus the wealth of tidbits it dropped in the run-up to the launch of the Realme 8 and 8 Pro.

Aside from its all-important 5G connectivity, the teaser image and livestream thumbnail mentions MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 chipset by name, which ties into rumours that the 8 5G will essentially be a repackaged version of the China-exclusive Realme V13 5G.

If true, the Realme 8 5G will also pack in a 6.5in 90Hz IPS LCD, 8GB of RAM and a triple rear camera setup, led by a 48Mp main sensor, and accompanied by a 2Mp macro and 2Mp depth snapper.

A sizeable 5000mAh battery is also likely to feature, with 18W fast charging and there’s talk of Realme’s latest version 2.0 user experience running, atop Android 11. See more details in our full guide to the Realme 8 series.
